A one-page crash course in Plone
A one-page survival manual for new contributors to Plone community sites. We are assuming here that you have already been added to a database of users and that 'basic HTML textarea editor' is the global defaut editor.
- The first thing is to log into the site with your login data (MMS). Then you can click on 'my folder' (beside your name) to access the space where you can add stuff.
- Using the 'add to folder' link you can add pages, images and files to your site. You can add images first, then include them in your pages later.
- When you add a page you will be taken to a 'edit page' screen. We are now recommending that you use a format called ReStructured Text to edit your pages. It is very easy to learn and in the long run ends up being less time consuming than something like Microsoft Word. So scroll down to 'Body Text', make sure ReStructured Text is selected in the top right corner.
- We have written a much-simplified guide to ReStructured Text .
- Also, if you are writing a homepage, youll want to make it the default page everyone sees when theyre visiting your folder. Go to the 'display' tab (beside 'add item'), click on 'Select Content Item as default view'and then select your homepage.
- Last thing: when you have finished creating your pages and images, you have to make them available for public view. Go to the 'change state' tab, and select 'publish' if you have permission to publish data, otherwise select 'submit'.
Hope that helps!
