Structure of a Website

The structure of a site should be logical and easy to follow but try to avoid having too many levels or subsites.

As a general the higher up a page it is the better, although this is more difficult in multi country sites.

Try to have no more than 3 levels (4 in a multi country site) Although If you have to use more, what can you do.

Don't forget it is best not to rely only on the standard Plone Navigation bar. For example you can add internal links in any page to let people know about pages in folders elsewhere in the site. OUR PLONE SITES. This reduces the need for many sub folders.

Do make use of index_html pages

For a standard Plone folder the recommended number of items (pages, images e.t.c is about 50) If you intend to have over 100 items. You should make use of a large Plone folder. This is simply a folder which can store very large numbers of items. If it is not an option in the drop down menu you need to request a kind Plone administrator to add it.

This is bad:

/the_poetseers/sri_chinmoy/library/poems_of_sri_chinmoy/poems_happiness/be_happy/

This is better:

/sri_chinmoy/selected_poems/be_happy/
