Poetry of Sri Chinmoy

Sri Chinmoy has written poetry since his early teenage years in India. In the past 30 years Sri Chinmoy has written a seemingly illimitable contribution of poems and instructional aphorisms. This poem "My Longings" is from some of Sri Chinmoy's earliest poetry, collected into a book called "My First Friendship With the Muse"

My Longings

My longings make me poor and weak,
They hear not my secret Will.
Ever they hate my quest supreme,
Away they take my thrill.

A day shall come, I know it well,
When all desires of mine
Will seek Thy Grace and Thee alone.
I then in Thee shall shine.

I will be above the fruits of deeds.
Thy blue Compassion-Eye
Will guide my heart and soul, my all.
In Thee my past shall die.

- Sri Chinmoy

These poems are extracts from Sri Chinmoy's epic series of 77,000 Service Trees.
They provide both inspiration and instruction in the spiritual life

How surprisingly beautiful
Was the sunrise
Of my aspiration-heart!

~~~
How astonishingly peaceful
Is the summit
Of my service-life!
~~~

The vastness-heart of humility
Immediately welcomes
The head of pride.

~~~
Discouragement sets in
When we stop challenging
The mounting pressures
Of life.
~~~

If we truly love Mother Earth,
Then the weight of her children
Will not feel heavy and unbearable.
