Sri Chinmoy Centre

The Vasudeva Service Project is sponsored by members of the Sri Chinmoy Centre who offer hosting for a variety of websites, including many websites about the work of Sri Chinmoy. In order to enable a framework for dynamic content the Vasudeva service project has made extensive use of a Plone based set up. Plone has many advantages including the ability to separate the aspects of a website into broadly; development, site admin and adding content.
Plone provides many useful automated facilities that can be seen in the Sri Chinmoy Centre website and Sri Chinmoy Races site. The Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team offer a wide variety of short distance and ultra distance running events. The home page offers the latest news and events and links to country’s subsites. As well as running members of the Sri Chinmoy Centre are also active in sports such as swimming, cycling, mountaineering and triathlon. Sri Chinmoy is a keen advocate of physical fitness as a way of promoting good health and he also believes it provides an excellent complement to spirituality.

The Sri Chinmoy Centre website offers a range of personal websites by members from around the world, including many non English websites. Giving free meditation classes has been an important aspect of Sri Chinmoy Centres, since the first centres were formed back in the 1960s. On the main centre site there are now online meditation guides for those interested in learning the basics of meditation and what kind of benefits that may come from meditation. An extensive online meditation course has recently been written by Jogyata Dallas. Jogyata has been giving meditation classes in Auckland, New Zealand for over 20 years. His articles are very informative and easy to read. A particularly interesting section of the website is Inspiration Letters this a centre ezine for writers to contribute articles on a variety of topics such as Science, Photography and the Arts. Also worth seeing is the Sri Chinmoy Centre Galleries, with other 100 photographers there is a range of beautiful, interesting and sometimes humourous photos.

Music is an important aspect of Sri Chinmoy Centre activities. Sri Chinmoy feels that next to silent meditation, music is the next best activity for bringing about a meditative consciousness. Within the Centre there are many skilled musicians who come together to perform music composed by Sri Chinmoy. These music groups perform at meditation classes and local concerts, some of these recordings can be heard online at Radio Sri Chinmoy which has a great selection of online meditation music, available for free download. Also at Radio Sri Chinmoy there are some plays performed, often these are adapted from plays written by Sri Chinmoy, some are spiritually oriented and others are quite funny.

Sri Chinmoy TV’s latest product is the popular weekly Podcast – “Inspiration News” This is about 5-10 mins of interesting stories, often told in a humorous offbeat style, well worth watching for an enjoyable view of the news! A Podcast “Inspiration Sounds” is also available at Radio Sri Chinmoy, this is a programme presented by Budhsamudra Knox. It offers online reading of various stories.
